Dr. Tal Soffer will lead the health and digital literacy work in a new Horizon Europe project focused on preventing osteoporosis among young people.

10 August 2026

Dr. Tal Soffer is part of an international consortium awarded Horizon Europe funding for BUILD-BONE, a research and innovation project focused on the primary prevention of osteoporosis among adolescents and young adults.

The consortium brings together organizations from 13 countries and has secured approximately €10 million in funding under the STAYHLTH – Staying Healthy in a Rapidly Changing Society call.

BUILD-BONE (Behavioural Interventions Promoting Osteogenic Exercise for Peak Bone Mass Attainment as Primary Prevention of Osteoporosis in Adolescents and Young Adults) will focus on adolescents and young adults aged 12–25. The project will develop and evaluate innovative behaviour change models designed to strengthen bone health, encourage healthy habits from an early age, and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and other chronic diseases later in life.

The project will integrate osteogenic physical activity, digital health technologies, artificial intelligence, health literacy, digital literacy, and advanced educational approaches to support the adoption and long-term maintenance of healthy behaviours.

As part of BUILD-BONE, Dr. Soffer will lead the health literacy and digital literacy pillar, developing youth-oriented models that connect knowledge, decision-making, and behaviour change. The approach aims to give young people an active role in managing their health and provide them with tools to make informed decisions that support healthy lifestyles over time.

The knowledge and models developed through BUILD-BONE are expected to contribute to prevention and health promotion programs for young people across Europe and beyond.

Dr. Soffer holds a joint appointment at the Gray Faculty of Medical and Health Sciences and the Department of Education at Tel Aviv University.
