Dr. Orit Waisbourd-Zinman joins physician-scientist program

Dr. Waisbourd-Zinman is a physician-scientist and a pediatric hepatologist at the Schneider Children’s Medical Center. She currently serves as the director of the Pediatric Liver Diseases Service and is the Principal Investigator of the Pediatric Hepatology Research Lab at the Felsenstein Medical Research Center of the Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University. She holds the position of Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Faculty of Medicine and is an Adjunct Assistant Professor of Pediatrics at the Perlman School of Medicine, University of Pennsylvania. 

 

Dr. Waisbourd-Zinman earned her MD from Tel Aviv University and went on to complete her pediatrics residency at the Schneider Children’s Medical Center. Further, she undertook gastroenterology and hepatology training at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and pursued post-doctoral training at the University of Pennsylvania under the guidance of Prof. Rebecca Wells.

 

The primary focus of Dr. Waisbourd-Zinman’s lab is on liver diseases that originate from the biliary epithelium, notably cholangiopathies. This encompasses conditions such as Biliary Atresia and Primary Sclerosing Cholangitis. Her research predominantly delves into understanding the pathogenesis of these diseases and the mechanisms of cholangiocyte injury and repair.
